Kamiya passionately argues for -- and defends -- his thesis that not only is Democratic candidate Barack Obama's race an issue, it's perfectly fine to vote for him because of it. While Obama's proven his personal and professional credentials, Kamiya holds no illusions that he'd be the frontrunner if he weren't black. He's not the "Magic Negro," a black who eases the conscience of guilty whites, but a racial bridge of sorts, connecting black and white America. Though he denies being influenced by it, Kamiya's unabashed admiration for his candidate slightly harms his editorial's credibility.
